Because jails are managed by local municipalities, their rules and regulations can vary from county to county. And nobody needs the hassle of traveling miles to visit an incarcerated loved one, only to be told that the visit will not be permitted. Clarke County
Visitation Regulations
NOTE: The inmate must be processed through intake and the orientation unit and placed in a housing unit before they can have visitors. This may be up to 72 hours from the time they are booked into the jail.
In alphabetical order (by inmate’s last name), “Visitation Days” will be on Tuesday & Wednesday and Saturday & Sunday of each week. Beginning on Sunday of each week, per inmate, only 4 visits permitted each week unless special circumstances dictate otherwise.

Inmate Workers
Video Visitation for Inmate Workers during the week coincides with his/her last name in conjunction with the above schedule as well. However, on Saturday of each week, Inmate Workers are permitted to receive a one-hour contact visit. This is held in the Central Programs Classroom from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, and to register, visitors should arrive 15 minutes before visitation begins.
Cherokee County
Visitation Regulations
- Each inmate is allowed only one visit per day.

- All visitors must provide proper state or government-issued photo identification.
- Visitation is limited to 2 adults and 2 children only.
- In-house video visitation is available at no cost. Each video visit lasts 15 minutes, and inmates are allowed 2 video visits per day.
- Off-site video visitation is available for a fee through visitel.us.
- All rules set for non-contact visitation shall be adhered to when using the video visitation system.
- Visitors can see an inmate only once per visitation day.
- Visitation sign-up is limited and is on a first-come-first-served basis.
- Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and reserve a visitation time.
- An adult must accompany all visitors under 17 years of age.
- Children must be monitored at all times.
- Visitors are not allowed to bring any personal belongings with them into the visitation area other than their picture ID and a set of keys.
- Visitors are subject to a pat-down search prior to entering the visitation area.
- Any visitor who refuses this search will be denied entry to visit.
- Smoking, food, or drinks are NOT allowed in the visitation area.
- No personal contact visits are allowed with inmates.
- Any disruptive or inappropriate behavior by a visitor can result in termination of visitation privileges.

Barrow County
Visitation Regulations
All Visitors are subject to search once inside the facility. The public may visit no more than one time per week, Monday through Saturday at the Winder GA location. Visitors must sign in at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled visits. If you schedule a visit and don’t show up or arrive late, you will not be allowed to visit the rest of that week, including Saturday. If a visit on Saturday is scheduled, and the visitor does not show up or arrives late, they will not be allowed to visit until the following Saturday. Repeated late arrival or no-show violations may result in the longer suspension of visiting privileges.
Inmates are allowed no more than one (1) visit per day. Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian, unless they are visiting a parent. Unaccompanied minors (under age 18) visiting a parent must present a copy of their birth certificate. Children must remain with the parent at all times during the visit. All visitors must have acceptable identification. This includes a drivers license with picture identification, military ID, or other verifiable picture ID. Three (3) pieces of non-picture ID may substitute for picture ID.
No mail or messages for inmates will be accepted. Mail must go through the U.S. Mail. Visitors may only visit the inmate they have signed up to visit. Any visitor who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to visit. Inappropriate behavior, including the use of profanity will not be permitted. No weapons will be permitted. All other items listed in the jail lobby are prohibited. There is a maximum of four (4) visitors per booth, including children, and the door must remain closed.
All visitors must wear appropriate clothing, including shoes and shirts. Restrictions on attire or appearance include: No miniskirts or similar attire; no low-cut or revealing necklines; no attire with obscene or offensive language; and no persons with a bare midriff will be permitted to visit. Visitors cannot bring items into the visiting area including weapons of any kind, purses, handbags, backpacks, diaper bags, food, drink, gum, baby bottles, pictures, books, toys, writing utensils, strollers or carriers, cell phones, cameras, or any other electronic devices.
Violation of the above restrictions may cause the visit to be canceled or terminated, and visiting privileges may be suspended by the Barrow Sheriffs Department. The on-duty supervisor may cancel visits without notice due to circumstances within the jail.
